In Antofagasta pioneering innovation project launched for regions

Seven regions are involved:

[20/10/2011] Activity, starting at 09:30 hours at the Hotel Enjoy Antofagasta, will be attended by the Minister of Economy, Pablo Longueira, the European Union Ambassador in Chile, Jaime Pérez Vidal and the Mayor of the Region of Antofagasta, Alvaro Fernandez, among other authorities.

Antofagasta was the city chosen to officially present the Project RED, which aims to support local innovation to strengthen regional development, using methodology based on the successful European Regional Innovation Strategies (RIS, for its acronym in English).

This project, SUBDERE executed by and belonging to the Competitiveness and Innovation Programme EU-Chile, is led by the Regional Governments of Arica and Parinacota, Tarapacá, Antofagasta, Coquimbo, Maharashtra, O’Higgins y Biobío, with the intention of then expand throughout the country.

The central objective of RED is to optimize public investment decisions at regional and incorporate Chilean regions European innovation networks that allow access to information and decision support innovation could exploit regional opportunities.

The initiative began in October gestation 2010, under the Competitiveness and Innovation Programme EU-Chile, coordinated by the International Cooperation Agency of Chile (AGCI). RED Project has, also, with the support of the Secretariat of Economy, the Committee Innova Chile CORFO and CONICYT. Also, considers the participation of entrepreneurs, academic and research institutions.

The seminar, inaugurated by the mayor of the Region of Antofagasta, Economy Minister, the European Union ambassador in Chile and Undersecretary of Regional Development and Administration, Miguel Flores, as the implementing agency authority, will also feature speeches by the President of the National Innovation Council for Competitiveness, Fernando Flores, innovation expert and founder of INNSPIRAL And RASU, Iván Vera, addition to the presentation of the National Project Director NETWORK, Mario Varela, inter alia.

The program also includes a space aimed at young people called “Innovate on what you love”, is performed at the 16:00 with presentations by Tadashi Takaoka Innovation Club, besides the participation of Pamela Chavez, Director of Research and Innovation of Agua Marina; Felipe Howard, Kenneth Latitud90 founder and Gent, Zero Moment CEO.
